About Us

History

Mt. Calvary has been around 1928, though we've been at our current location since 1961. Our school ministry, Mt. Calvary-Grace Lutheran School, been around since 1958.

Beliefs

We believe that the Bible is the perfect Word of God, written by men who were inspired by the Holy Spirit what to write.  It is true in all that it says and contains no errors or contradictions, and serves as the foundation for our lives.

We believe in one God in three persons - God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.

We believe that God is the creator of all things. God is holy and perfect and has been around since eternity. Because He is perfect, He also demands perfection. However, ever since Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, every single person who has ever lived is sinful from birth. Because of our sins and failures, we have no hope of earning salvation on our own.

Despite our sin, we believe in the perfect life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, who being true God and true man, lived a perfect life that we never could. Through faith in Jesus as our Savior, we have a sure hope of heaven after our lives on Earth come to an end. Heaven isn't earned by us doing good works. Rather, we do good works here on Earth out of thanks and love to God for all that He's done for us.

This faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior isn't something we can create ourselves. We believe that God the Holy Spirit uses the Gospel--the Word of God and the Sacraments, Baptism and Lord's Supper, to create and strengthen faith in a person's heart. The result is that in Christ Jesus a person lives a life free from the accusions of Satan, the guilt of sin and the fear of death.
